South Africa
After an incredible 2 months in South America, we departed for our next adventure… Africa! Prior to departing for our world travels in December Sean told Laura many many times that Africa, where he studied almost 10 years ago, with its extremely diverse culture, fascinating history and incredible food, music, beaches, and wildlife, was one of his favorite places in the world. Sean had traveled through most of southern Africa during his studies including Namibia, Mozambique, Swaziland and Zimbabwe, but it was Cape Town, South Africa that Sean loved most… and where we would make our home base for the next month!
We arrived in Cape Town exhausted after 4 flights and over 14 hours of layover time and sleeping in various airports. However, we were so excited upon arrival it didn’t stop us from setting out to explore the city!
Sean played tour guide and showed Laura his old stomping grounds… from Table Mountain to the historic Bo-Kapp neighborhood, a visit to Camps Bay, the University of Cape Town where Sean studied, and the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. Laura too fell in love with the city…

After enjoying our time in the city, we departed for a week to explore the fishing and seaside towns of Kalk Bay and Fish Hoek before relaxing in wine country and stopping to meet a few cheetahs at a nearby conservation park…

We then decided it was time to do something we had not yet done on our travels… road trip!!! We rented a car (Sean learned to drive on the wrong side of the road, Laura took it for a spin too!) and headed off for a 9 day drive along the South African coast to do the famous “Garden Route”. We experienced extremely diverse and incredible landscapes, ate tons of seafood, hiked, lounged on beaches, and partied at a few quirky hostels along the way! …

Our road trip ended with an exclamation point, why come to Africa and not do a safari!?! We booked a two night safari at an incredible game reserve along the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The landscape and wildlife was amazing, we never wanted to leave!!! As you can imagine we took sooooooo many pictures of incredible wildlife sightings, here our a few of our favorite memories from this awesome adventure…

On our way home from the road trip we made one last stop to Cape Agulhas, the southern most point on the continent of Africa! Where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic…

We have had such an incredible journey in South Africa, but the best is yet to come! During our stay we missed the wedding of two of our favorite people in the world, it wasn’t a good feeling. But, there is good news, as the newly wed Mr. & Mrs. Walsh will be honeymooning in South Africa and we met up TOMORROW for what will be one hell of a new adventure including cage diving with great white sharks, full day wine tasting tours, a visit to the Cape of Good Hope and other surprises!!!
Rory and Suz, see ya soon!!!!!!
Once again, amazing photos and brings back so many awesome memories. Hugs to the newly married couple! Love, Mom
