Langkawi, Malaysia & Laura turns 30!
After a week of Hindu temples, yoga, and meditation on the island of Bali it was off to Malaysia. We took a flight through Kuala Lumpur and eventually made our way to the island of Langkawi, Malaysia. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 to 104 islands (depending on the tide, when some of the islands are covered by water!) and is also home to some great friends of ours.
A few months back while in Europe one of our best friends Jill Farrell (we love you Jill!) came over with the crew that traveled throughout Ireland with us. Langkawi is currently home to Jill’s parents, Lori and Charlie, who are in the process (after a few years of hard work!) of opening their zip-line company Umgawa Legendary Adventures. Lori and Charlie took us in for 8 nights and they were perhaps THE BEST hosts we have had anywhere during our travels. They introduced us to their island group of friends and showed us beaches off the beaten path, coordinated boat tours through mangroves, helped us ring in the Laura’s big 3-0 birthday, and even let us be a part of the grand opening of Umgawa zip-line. We not only were given a chance to “fly” the zip-line course opening day, but also got to go the following afternoon with a photographer for a mini “photo shoot” haha (a picutre of Laura is being used on their website).
Here our a few moments from our Langkawi adventure...

Off to see the new Umgawa site and zip-line...

Beach day with the Langkawi "Golden Girls"...

In the midst of our travels, a MOMENTOUS MOMENT occurred - Laura turned 30!!! We celebrated all day...

To continue the celebration we explored the mangrove forests by boat, an extremely important component in the ecosystem of the island marked as an UNESCO Global Geopark, stopped for a swim at a sandbar (one side facing Thailand, the other Malaysia), visited a cave full of bats, and met an amazing family from Egypt who we hope to visit during future travels...

Afterwards Lori and Charlie treated to dinner at one of the islands best restaurants, Privilege, where we were greeted with birthday champagne!

The birthday festivities were not complete without a stop at Mangoes where Michelle surprised Laura with the most beautiful and delicious Pavlova cake, thanks Michelle!!! Followed by stops at bars along the beach and grub at very local late night food spot...

Another country, another island, another amazing time. Small island living is the best, but time to get back to city life with a quick pit stop to Singapore!
I was sad to not celebrate your big birthday with you. But it looks like you were well taken care of! Looks like so much fun! Miss youuuuuuuuuuuu.
Doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate again haha.. Need to see you soon! Xxo
What a beautiful place! Will have to add it to my list of places to see in my life. Sean’s beard seems to not be getting longer, but maybe curlier at the ends? Is it still uncut since you guys started?
Many thanks to Charlie, Lori & Michelle….especially for your 30th pancake b’fast and fabulous Pavlova cake at Mangoes!
Beautiful place and more wonderful photos.
Enjoy seeing your smiles!
